Funding for Swiss Startups
Overview of available funding programs and how to apply.
Innosuisse: The Federal Innovation Agency
Innosuisse supports innovation projects between companies and universities. The Start-up Coaching Program accompanies young companies with expert knowledge. The Core Coaching Track is free and offers up to 80 hours of coaching.
Cantonal Economic Development
Each canton has its own programs. Examples include low-interest loans, guarantees, tax breaks, or contributions to consulting costs. Particularly active are Zurich, Zug, Vaud, and Geneva.
Other Funding Opportunities
- Venture Kick: Up to CHF 150,000 in three stages, plus coaching
- Climate KIC: EU funding for cleantech startups
- Gebert Rüf Foundation: Promotion of science-to-market projects
- BRIDGE: SNF and Innosuisse collaboration for applied research
- EU Horizon Europe: Access for Swiss startups (with limitations)
Tips for Successful Applications
- Start early: Application processes often take months
- Read the criteria carefully: Not every program fits
- Prepare a convincing pitch
- Show traction: First customers, revenue, validation
- Be realistic: Exaggerated forecasts hurt
Use Combinations
Many funding programs can be combined. For example, Innosuisse coaching plus cantonal loans plus Venture Kick. Pay attention to the rules on accumulation and document everything properly.
